Program (tentative)

The workshop will occur over a full week from Monday to Friday. It will consist of a combination of lectures, guest talks and, towards the end of the week, hackathon sessions. We will meet daily from 9am - 5pm. Coffee breaks and lunch (noon) will be built into the daily schedule. Below is a tentative schedule for the week:

Day 0 – (Remotely, 1 week before workshop)
– Zoom session: Installing CytoSim on your laptop

Day 1 – Monday
– Welcome & workshop overview
– Intro to cytoskeletal systems and CytoSim simulations
– Simulating point-like objects
Lunch
Guest talk (Zoom): Ana X Carvalho (i3S) – (crosslinkers)
– Spaces and object placement
– Simulating filaments: static and dynamic

Day 2 – Tuesday
– Simulating beads, spheres and asters
– Simulating motors & crosslinkers with couples
– Exploring hand types and combinations
Guest talk: James Sellers (NIH) – (myosin motors)
Lunch
Guest talk: Amy Maddox (UNC) – (contractile ring)
– Extracting data from CytoSim
– Python scripts for data analysis

Day 3 – Wednesday
– Simulating motors & crosslinkers with solids and fibers
Guest talk (Zoom): Caroline Laplante (NC State) – (Nucelar repositioning)
– Simulating multiple networks with binding keys
Lunch
Guest talk: Mary Elting (NC State) – (mitotic spindle)
– Running CytoSim on a computer cluster (temp access to NCSU HPC cluster is provided)

Day 4 – Thursday
– 3D simulations
Guest talk (Zoom): Kimberly Weirich (Clemson) – (reconstituted actin systems)
– Steric interactions and lattice sites

– Hackathon team preparation
– Hackathon session

Day 5 – Friday
– Hackathon session
